Rosa centifolia (roses) are one of hundreds of shrubs in the Rosacae family. The plants are native to North America and Asia as well as Europe and northwest Africa. Roses symbolize beauty, purity and romance. The potent fragrance of roses is prized by soap makers, perfumers and cosmetic chemists alike. However, roses boast more than just a beautiful smell.
